Covid-19 Response

First and foremost, I hope everyone is doing well, safe and healthy! It’s definitely been some interesting and challenging times over the past 16 weeks.

With everyone's health and safety in mind we have determined it is in the best interest to CANCEL our 2020 Melvin McCall “STROKES FORE PROGRESS” Golf Tournament that had been re-scheduled for Monday, September 14th . It’s disappointing to have to make this decision, as this will be second cancellation over the past 4 years.

It’s been encouraging to see our Country, States and local municipalities open back up responsibly and I believe most of us are in what I believe is Phase 2 – with that being said, we all would like to believe we are on the downside of these challenging times, but if we are being brutally honest, we really don’t know, evident by the recent surge of positive tests putting South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia in the large group of States who are now considered RED STATES regarding the CORONAVIRUS.

I’m very sensitive to the challenging times we have and continue to experience regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic, all of this was considered when making our decision. With our primary concern being our family, friends and participants in our event, there are simply too many uncertainties as we speak.

I have a big request from each of you, even though we can’t meet in person this year for our fundraising event, we can still raise a lot of money this year for The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke via virtual Fundraising at our website; CANCER never takes a day off, so let’s all chip in and make a difference helping eliminate BRAIN CANCER. How can you make a difference:

  • We began our 5-year $100,000 Fundraising Campaign in 2018;  after year 2, we have raised $33,500 – a big part of this fundraising goal was our outside the box Fundraising idea involving Money Bags or Bank Deposit Bags - everyone attending our event the past 2-years has received a Money Bag to take home and return with at the following year’s event.

We focused on the loose pocket change we all collect weekly, annual average is $75; and/or setting aside $1-2 per week, which when returned for the following years event would guarantee a minimum of $10,200 and maximum $20,400 raised via our money bags should all of our captive audience of 200 participate.

Please reach out to those you know who regularly participate in our event and aren’t on this email and encourage them to go to our website www.strokes4progress.com and make a minimum $52.00 donation. 100% of all money donated will be given to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Research Center at Duke - we will take donations through December 31, 2020. As I said, Cancer doesn’t take a day off, and even though we can’t get together this year as we normally have, we can still make a wonderful donation to Duke via our financial participation through our website.

Next year’s tournament date is Monday, May 24th, 2021, and we are looking forward to a banner year. Please stay safe, well and healthy as we continue to navigate these challenging times; we love you guys and are grateful for your friendship, time, effort, commitment and contributions made by each of you in making our event so successful during the past 20 years!

Sincerely,

Shawn
